Volleyball

Playing volleyball

It didn't snow but NOW it did!

Dear Family and Special Friends and other random penguins(as it is cold)
I am happy to report that my week was fantabulous. Despite my random craziness and lack of good numbers, due to some stupid sacking ZLs, but they are good people, so they will be forgiven.
Tuesday kind of sucked. We got one lesson then we found out, oh hey don't forget exchanges, and we had exchanges and our area died that day. :( So we got only one lesson in our area and that was one of our big work days.
Wednesday we had two lessons, after a super long Zone training which everyone liked the theme to but not the way the presenter presented. Ya I won't name names but one of the themes was YOU can change the members through faith and get them involved in working with you, but the presenter added the stupid phrase you can't change your companion, um Huh? I basically got the point but the other Elders didn't and at the lunch after I gave my agreement to them, but then expounded the points of the gospel that he meant to say and how we have a responsibility to take charge as the people on the frontline of the missionary effort and it turned into a cool discussion. We had a meeting with the brothers of the guy who I smoked in a race and they were seeing the reverse happen of what I promised them if they came to church. What I mean by reverse is a consequence to not coming to church, they are getting the inverse of my promise. Wow God really is involved in missionary work, and he will make things happen to get the stiffnecked to turn their heads and see.
Thursday, Christmas Day, I got to open presents and then we visited a member before going and visting another family, so I could Skype home which you all know about. It was super cool and I really liked the discussion!
Friday we went and worked, and we got three lessons and two new investigators. It was awesome, one of the investigators who I am teaching is also here in the library. I will, soon maybe if the Spirit lets me, ask him why he didn't come to church on Sunday. So ya he needs to start following commitments.
Saturday The Zone leaders said "we want to come talk to you guys during lunch"' and we were like "sure." Well they got there after lunch and stayed there for two and a half hours. They consumed most, if not all, of the day being sacks.  I am frustrated with that because they were coming to see if Paonessa was okay but ya we played basketball with the youth and we locked up the church, drove home, got some gas, and some guy came up to me and tried to pay me for a ride. We said "Sorry, we can't give you a ride. It is just a rule we have." I implied parents and I said, "it isn't my car" and he was like "oh this is a minor" and he left me alone. Well it was funny because we got home and then we got ready for bed, then Elder Paonessa remembered he left one of the doors to the church unlocked with a door propping it open. So we tried contacting an English bishop to get him to go close the door. But he was like "no that is your job morons" and we were like "it is 10:15." Well he adamantly refused. So the APs had to call father Brunn because the members wouldn't listen to a missionary. So we owe father Brunn lunch, but that isn't bad.
Sunday we had four lessons. We found another investigator and it was super awesome.  We are going to rock this area and get some real improvement and change and get some baptisms.
I love you all Love Elder Logan Joseph Draper

Merry Christmas and Birthdayness

Dear Family and Friends and the other interested parties who are not named because I know thee not
I have had a good week! We were fortunate enough to have Zone Conference on my Birthday and that was super cool because I got my packages that Day! And we then took a picture of the missionaries, and right before the picture they all sang to me. It was kind of embarrassing and cool all at the same time. We also did a white Elephant gift exhange, I did some groceries and a tie that Elder Cabazes left. So it would have been sweet had an Elder gotten it, but a senior couple got it. Well I got this mason jar mug thing but I traded a sister for an Electric type writer and a chocolate bar. Well the only thing wrong with the typewriter is the ribbon has all been used up and I will need to find some. Well this week, in working, was a disaster and work wise I have nothing to report. Elder Paonessa worked on his citizenship papers and we also went and helped host Gingerbread Festival at the Trail Center.
Well we had a hiccup when Alexis didn't quite pass her baptismal interview on the first go. Her problem was there were three or four other girls trying to sit in on it, and trying to have it as a lesson. Well that doesn't work and I wasn't there, because we had to do splits for that so it was interesting. I got to go to a dinner appointment, which was difficult because I hadn't eaten very much at all the past couple days. I could only eat half the amount that they gave Elder Maradiaga and I. I was with him because his car is stupid and they had to take his driving privileges for a transfer.
Well then Thursday we went over and did a huge baptismal review for Alexis. We went through all the things she didn't understand, and clarified and made sure she understood what she was going to be doing.
Well she passed her interview and she got baptized the 20th of December and confirmed on the 21st. It was such a cool day, we were so happy for her. I was sorry Johnson missed it and I am glad I didn't baptize her, because I may have wanted to give her a hug but it was super cool. I got to participate in her confirmation as well and it was so cool, both times the spirit was super strong. I can see the fire in her eyes, she made the right decisions. I am so happy for her and I can't wait to see her either later today and tomorrow and talk about her experience.
So that sums up my week everyone. Sorry it is short, but we will have a chance to talk on Thursday. I love you I miss you all, but I know I am whrere I am supposed to be. I have been called to reap in a harvest and to be an instrument in the Lord's hands. As to my strength I know I am weak, but God is my strength and in His power we can perform many mighty miracles even bring one soul unto Christ. I am grateful for this Christmas season to celebrate the birth of the Christ child and to become a better disciple and to begin a new year and have new beginings.

Transfers, Ceviche, Milk and Blah

Dear Family and Friends
This has been an exciting and interesting week. I have a new companion, his name is Elder Paonessa. Elder Johnson is in Storm Lake, Iowa and ya it is kind of sad, but I will see him next transfer at Spanish Conference. So now, as I forgot my planner from last transfer, I will simply tell you all the important and cool things.
So Tuesday after district meeting we went to the Guaca Maya for taco Tuesday, but it is only a dinner thing. So we just did the buffet instead. So it was pretty good, also we found out that a missionary that should have come out with me but got sick in the MTC and then went home and then came back out, got sick again and so he got sent home. He is such a cool missionary. After he went home, Johnson and I were talking. He was saying that it is okay that he is being sent home, because he has already changed, and become convereted. I gave him my copy of the talk from the guy in our ward who went to mexico and dad's phone number, so he could meet the guy. His name is Elder Espinoza.
Wednesday I don't really remember to much of what happened, but it was a pretty good day.
Thursday, the day we find out about transfers. So, we get up and start into the normal routine and we are going along, and the night before we had made sure that the APs and President Weston's ringtones were unique from everyone else's. Well, we got a phone call and it was a generic ringtone. So we were confused, but then when it said APs we realized that they had two phones. So Elder Johnson was informed that he would be a DL in Storm Lake. He asked "So who is Draper getting?" and Elder Edwards said, "You probably already know." and, Johnson replied, "Pao is pretty on top of things but tell me anyways." and he said, "Elder Paonessa" and just chuckled. Well this was especially funny because, while I was showering, Elder Paonessa had called Johnson to say that I was going to be getting Elder Wilson. So long story short, I surprised Pao. So we went and visited people and said fair wells for Elder Johnson and stuff.
Friday we got Pao packed and moved down to south side. We had a lesson with a LA, who is smoking, and he was saying that he could beat me in a race even with smoking, because I was telling him that he was getting unhealthy and killing himself. So I took him on his race challenge, it was maybe thirty yards. I smoked him, (no pun intended ;) ). So that was fun. I taught him, I haven't worked out you go to the gym and I kicked your trash? God gave me the victory, and you know it, so will you stop smoking dope and cigarettes and run!
Saturday I had a good full day of work. It was really hard to find people, but it was possible every now and then. So I am going to be hopefully getting more success. We are going through our area book and getting ready to turn south Omaha into a baptismal factory, ha ha we are excited. So I took Elder Paonessa to dinner at El Catrin a Mexican restaurant. Last time I was there both Johnson and our ward mission leader's wife had ceviche and it is so good so I got some myself, it was delicious. The JWs (Jehovah Witnesses) stole a guy in our apartment complex from us, but we will steal him back.
Sunday was good I got the runs from my ceviche. I was hungry, so I got some cereal and basically the milk curdled in my stomach. I threw up and had the runs Sunday morning and I have been throwing up periodically ever since and having the runs. It is awful .I don't know exactly what to do. I am going to get some crackers and put myself on the BRATTY diet. So that should be good, but it was awful because I felt so crappy. During Priesthood I got up and had my companion, the other Elders, and a member come and give me a blessing. It helped, especially since I threw up two minutes later and felt like a million bucks. Honestly, the blessing has helped, even though it hasn't taken all the syptoms away.
I love you all and thanks for your prayers for me, please include if possible a little something extra for Elder Paonessa. He has had a hard life. His dad kicked him out of his house and he had to sell his car and every other non-essential thing of his that he wouldn't need after his mission to get out here. He doesn't really have much to go back to please pray for him. He is a great missionary and he simply needs Love.

Love Elder Logan Joseph Draper

Last night he wanted to go to the other elders and I said no, because it was exactly 9:30 when we got home and I still had to pack. I couldn't go, so I made him angry with me. I just pray he can understand soon. He is ready to be normal again, where the small things aren't sins. Please pray for us. I have a hard assignment, from the mission president, to love him and keep him going until the end

SHARE THE GIFT because HE IS THE GIFT

Dear Family Friends, and Santa's helpers
I am doing super duper awesome despite some disappointments, but that is for a little bit later in the letter.
Tuesday we had district meeting and then, because of craziness, we ended up going to the Trail Center to be hosts for the Gingerbread House Festival thing. That was fun, we talked to some great people and we got them to go upstairs to check out to other gingerbread houses and then onto a tour. So we had a 75% success rate with getting people on a tour because of Gingerbread! So that was awesome. Then we met with David and his son Cristian, and we dropped David because he didn't want to do the work to join the church because everything else is too important. We also got a sweet lesson with the brother and the sons of a recent convert and the Anti-Mormon we are masons uncle of the boys actually backed us up when we taught about prayer so it was super cool. And I think they will make some awesome progress. Well we also found out from the north Elders that the Hermanas were visiting their less active and they texted "thanks for the respect"
Wednesday we had a good day, we got six "he is the gift" cards passed out and we are going to visit more with an extremely apostate, less active 17 year old. And it will be hilarious because he doesn't really have any concept of the gospel. He denies everything about it because he wants, or wanted, to sin. Now he doesn't want to come back because I think he thinks he can't repent, which he can it might just take a while but he is a pretty good kid. We had a meeting with the bishop to follow up on missionary work. So the sisters gave us cards with attributes they liked about us, basically saying we are trying to be friends and we respect you. The other Elders were like "they are trying to butter us up ya duh ya duh"
Thursday we had a good lesson on the Law of Chastity, we made it modesty, with our 10 year old girl. So that was good, and we were getting her ready for baptism. And then that night we came across the sisters in our area, and then it kept getting to be a bigger and bigger deal for them. So ya it was a mess.
Friday we did our weekly planning and we had dinner with a super cool family in the north Elders area. And it is fun to visit the recent converts and reactivated members, because they come back stronger. And I calculated how much time we spend out of our lives studying scriptures and going to church, if we were perfect since we were born only 21% but we all now it is may be in reality more like 18%. And one of our members got permission to come out with us on visits, after not being allowed to for a while, so it was awesome!!!
Saturday was Ward party day we played basketball at the church with the youth, then we set up. And during the party I danced, because I was forced into a dance circle thing and the members are liking me more. I also took a chance to talk to the Hermanas about the whole thing, and they could be area poachers but it doesn't matter. I extended the hand of friendship saying, "The other Elders don't want to work with you, but I will do what I can. But be honest, have you been "area poaching?"" and it was a negative. So we decided to work together, and when Johnson saw me talking to Hermana Carlson he was like get some! Then he realized I don't, and wouldn't, do that and he then realized what I was trying to do and repented. We got everything settled with the Hermanas from the position of southside northside is still angst.
Sunday was good and we had a meeting with the bishop where he rebuked the other Elders and me because I am with them on the contention between us, and ya it was awesome. We have had peace restored. That is my week. I love you, and I can't wait to write you next week either from here or a new area.

Thanksgiving week

Dearest Family Friends and pets who like chicken or turkey
I am doing awesome, but kind of sad but still Awesome! So Monday we again met with the family that we basically were marriage counselors to. And well we were there rather late the last time we were there, we didn't get home until 10:20 and luckily the bishop has taken over. So we don't have to, and ya we are 18 and 20 but ya.
Tuesday was district meeting and it went well. We were challenged by a visiting Seventy (he had a meeting with the leaders the week before) that we need to have 4 baptisms a month and pray for miracles. He basically rebuked the crap out of our leadership, and we should for sure starting in March had 70 baptisms a month as a mission from that point on, NO LESS. So we need to step it up andale (come on)! Well we then went to the Trail Center after picking up a humidifier from the church that Johnson forgot to grab, since it was being passed from member to member thing. Then we went to the Trail Center to host the Gingerbread Festival for a while. Then we went back to our area and had dinner with our ward mission leader and that was good. Then we had a super sweet lesson with one of our little girls, and here is why it is sad and AWESOME! So we taught her and after our lesson we were talking to her about her baptism and she was telling us, "I can't go to church this Sunday because I have to go stay with my dad for Thanksgiving." And we were like, "No, sorry" :( and she said "Well I guess I am going to have to stay here so I can go to church and get baptized on the 6th of December." Well that didn't work out which is good as she got to visit her dad, but we were able to move it to the 13th and we got her friend set for the 20th of December. So that is totally awesome! And they are progressing
Wednesday we had a good meeting with one of the recent converts in our area and then we picked up dry cleaning and then played basketball with the youth. That was fun, though I don't think it was the most productive the other Elders did so I went along, and did some studying before I played.
Thanksgiving! We got three lessons, which according to the Elders is a record for a holiday. So that was good. We had some good food with the Mejia Familia (Family) and they cook well, both the mom and dad, which is rare for a guy to cook in a Hispanic home. So he earned some bonus points. We are having fun with a part member family where we are teaching the sons of a RC and they are progressing and they probably won't get baptized till next year it is still worth it.
Friday we got one of the girls set for baptism on the 20th, and it was awesome! And we got another RC lesson, so reminding y'all read your scriptures every night or listen to them. Oh and we went on exchanges and taught the brother of this disabled Jehovah's Witness dude. And we can't fight the guy in a wheelchair who isn't all the way there, so ya it stinks for the other guys. We had dinner with the bishop and helped his neighbor move a piano. OH and our bishop is moving to the DR (Dominican Republic) to do a job there for a year. :(
Saturday we did weekly planning and it was good. We taught two lessons and ya it was an uneventful day.
Sunday we got in two lessons and they were good. We have some hard LAs to work with and ya it was difficult. We don't know what their problem is, and ya we are doing our best. Hopefully we can help them to come around and get in the Gospel.
             Well that is about it
I LOVE YOU ALL
Have an Attitude of Gratitude

The Temple Trip Week

Dear Family Friends and other interested Parties
I am doing awesome because I get to hear from all of you, and tell you about my crazy week.
I had a good day last Monday, lots of craziness. I had one of my free crap pens die, which was kind of sad but not really, just frustrating
Tuesday we got a lesson with our people in the dress shop. We are going to hopefully get some member presents with them soon, and get out of there because I am honestly tired of women's underwear and prom dress. It feels wrong and it is so awkward at times, especially the other week when we had a member walk in. We had another lesson with our girls, and it was good. We don't think that two of them are really committed, so that is sad for us but it will all work out. .
Wednesday we had Zone training and this meeting was focused on us, how we can be better missionaries. We had a big thing on changing our studies to make them better, and with that Johnson and I did find ways to improve and we have been studying like studs. We got another lesson with the girls, and it was good. Then we got another lesson with our one of our part member family, and that is always a fun one. Elder Paonessa was very angry at the ZLs and President Bartlet of the mission presidency, who used to be in our stake presidency when I first got here, because they basically ruined his perfect mission life. And Johnson and I are being more obedient. I feel bad about how I have acted before, so as Johnson and I have talked about. I will do and let Pao talk (or in other words I stay silent and be obedient while Pao talks).
Thursday was kind of disappointing because we only got two lessons with MA (menos activo, translated as less active) and I, but it was still a good day of work.
Friday we got to go to the temple, which I have missed because I haven't gone since before my mission. And I have only done two endowment sessions in total, so it was really nice and I love the temple. I am so glad we have a temple here in Nebraska, in my Mission! We cut it close on miles. We only had two left over for our three week period, but it all worked out even with there being a huge accident blocking our path so we had to take a huge detour.
Saturday we had lots of things go weird. We did some service, and while Elder Paonessa was at a meeting we went with Maradiaga to a lesson. We just were basically a trio and quad thing all day. We did service for these members, whose daughter kind of took some liberty to feel me up by falling while I was holding the door and some stuff. So it was weird but we survived, and ya that is why go two by two! We got a lesson with one of the girls, and it was good. We taught the Word of Wisdom. We just need to figure out the Law of Chastity, we are talking to her mom before we even say anything.
Sunday we had dinner with a member, and that took forever. Then when we got to our one set appointment we turned into marriage counselors, and no normal 18 and 20 year-olds could have handled that lesson. So I am so glad God and Christ are on my side. "I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and I have been called of him to declare his word among his people that they might have everlasting life." (3 Nephi 5:13)

I'm going to proselyte the snow.

Catch up time!

Okay, well I forgot where I left off, but I will go with Friday of last week. So we had a fairly normal morning until we got a knock on the door and we both almost did front-flips, and crazy ninja moves, trying to get to the door for a package. And guess what, we were both disappointed at first when it was just the Jehovah's witnesses but we soon decided, why not. So we had a little door step lesson with them and they tried to catch us in our words, in Spanish none the less(!) (dirty tricksters), because they were trying to get us to fall into the trap of "there is only one way, fighting or not fighting in wars." And we pulled Book of Mormon Captain Moroni on them, and said "ya but I will do what God wants me to do. You can't trick me, we have a Prophet y'all," but we didn't get into that yet. So that will be our next lesson that we teach to them.
Then Saturday we had a couple get sealed in the temple. We didn't get to go, but it was still cool. And we were like "ya free food" at their wedding reception, which we helped a little bit with. And we ran into our sister missionaries for the first time since they got back, and ya it was interesting. Then
Sunday we did an area redivide, and that was good. And we got instructions for our ward plan as missionaries, from our stud of a bishop. He really gets the gospel and the importance of families, which are ward struggles with.
Then last Monday we visited with one youth, helping him with going on a mission
Tuesday we got two member present lessons, and it rocked. We are really on a roll here: one with a part member family; the other with a little white girl, who wants to go to the Spanish ward.
Then Wednesday we had a sweet lesson with an investigator family that has been struggling to progress and we have figured out the problem, and our starting over the lessons and more about that later. Well, we are now teaching two white girls and a black girl that want go to to the Spanish ward! Ya wow, my first baptisms won't even be Latino! It is so weird, but we will catch up in the Latino baptisms soon after.
Thursday was unproductive. as I was on exchanges and we only tried to see two people. I am learning what type of missionary I should not be, not what type of missionary I should be right now. So we only visited with one person, and it was a great lesson. I rebuked her on her marital problems and handed them the solution The Family: A Proclamation to the World; and be who you want to be married to; and work as a team; and do you like something about him, or do you love Him? So it was awesome in that aspect.
Well Friday was the mission tour, where we had Brent H. Neilsen of the Quorum of the Seventy come and teach us and uplift us and rebuke us all in the same day, and it was good. I took tons of awesome notes, I am going to refer back to for the rest of my mission. I was so excited for it and I learned so much, but one huge thing that was brought up. He said, "Disobedient Missionaries Baptize To Their Own CONDEMNATION," as was taught him by David A. Bednar. So I never want to be disobedient. We also got to see many missionaries from all over the mission. I forgot to mention that it got cold on Tuesday, so it was frigid Friday
Saturday we decided to go and do some service at the trail center setting up some stuff for Christmas, and IT SNOWED. And it was fun to see it snow, but it didn't snow a lot. And after, service, we went and taught our investigator family The Restoration, and it was amazing. The video is just what they needed. And then we went home and the ZLs came and did an apartment inspection, and after they left and after we ate dinner, we grounded the cars because of the road conditions. So we walked thirty minutes to our appointment luckily, and sadly, we got a ride back from the family. But it was fun, we have awesome pictures to send soon, so that was awesome!
Sunday we went to church and did weekly planning, and that was boring but very needed. I love my snow clothes, especially when night comes and temperatures are about to drop. Ya it is biting cold with humidity, so that is my week
Love Elder Logan Joseph Draper
Oh P.S. as per advice from my companion, send all packages to the apartment and letters to the mission office, because packages don't get forwarded but letters do and that ensures safe delivery but whatever works no worries until I leave Omaha then my apartment is a must for perishable items

Jehovah's Witness, Baptismal Dates and The Return of the Sisters

Dear Friends and Family and other interested parties
I am doing so awesome, it is FANTABULOUS!!!!!!! We had some great lessons, but we must start from the beginning.
Tuesday we taught some great lessons and we got a new investigator the nephew of the Anti-Mormon. He soaks it up and he is so ready to learn. He is just a teenage boy who, sort of, can't focus on one topic. It was awesome, and we are getting him to pray more. We rebuked, or more like I rebuked, one of our less actives for saying 'I'll come to church' then never does, and he for the record still didn't come. So ya, he never keeps his commitments but we are trying to do baby steps. Then we are helping anther less active see God more in his life, and how that God is giving you these trials to help you be stronger. We know he has faith, he just is overwhelmed.
WEDNESDAY!!!!!! We set two people for baptism and it was so Cool, and one was a member present! To be honest, the one that is solid set is actually a little white girl who is going to come to the Spanish ward with her neighbor,s since they are her friends. It is so exciting! Both of them are like sponges, they soak up what we teach them, and they really want it. We are trying to, maybe, get the parents of the kids involved so that we can teach and baptize them as well, which would be so AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
Thursday we had tons of great lessons and we reaffirmed one baptismal commitment. It was an awesome lesson and we just, awesomeness it was so cool!!! WE got anther new and we are going to start baptizing soon! We are working with another member with a drug/guilt from drugs problem and it is sad to see what drugs do in peoples lives. I can't stand it! They are so stupid. I want to simple smack the people that gave that person the drugs, and be like 'you moron!' But, alas, that is not my job. I need to go, I am sorry I did not finish. We have to go to a dinner appointment. I am going to finish the rest in a letter. I love you all

Big Cold DARK Weird/Scary Halloween weekish stuff ya

Dear Family and Friends
I am doing well, as is my companion and the rest of my district. We are just to say the least a little crazy, but I will get to that later in the letter. (Suspense!)
So Tuesday was departing testimonies and District meeting, and this one sister who asked Johnson to write her sister while he was in his first area after writing her a while then told him that she was no longer going to write him. Well Johnson was like okay fine if that is how it is, so at the testimonies he and I avoided them to not make it awkward. Well, it just so happened as we were leaving Johnson got stuck holding the door and out came an AP with the Sister and her sister and ya it was funny because the sister GIGGLED and Johnson was confused, until two days later we had to drop a Bill off at the Mission office because they send it to our apartment, and guess what Sister Nelson gives him? A letter from the sister of the Sister and it was funny because the APs were there and one was like oh from _____ and the other was like WHAT? because he likes the Sister that just went home, there are predictions that they will marry. So who knows and cares, I'll still be here. Well we took Kevin to the departing testimonies and he will probably serve a mission, the testimonies really touched him. Sister Carlson, who used to be in the area, came and talked to me about how Omaha was doing and, since it is doing well, she basically went on a compliment trip with Kevin standing right next to me, and then he asked, "can missionaries flirt and go on dates?" and I was like NO but after yes now NO. So it was amusing.
Wednesday we worked, I forgot my planner so I forgot what we did but everything was good the big thing was on...
Thursday that is when Johnson got the letter and he was going crazy. I was laughing at him, at the girls, at him again. It was simply just, WOW, funny ,we were still laughing. That night we went on a team up with Father Bruun, our Stake Young Men's President. He is a very funny and serious guy. We went and visited some people with him, he calls us son all the time and basically everyone loves and trusts him even our investigators. We had some funny moments with him. He is prideful, but it is more accurate to say 'if you aren't doing your job right he gives you crap'. We ran our three miles and we have to run three miles twice this week, so we can get free dinner on Thursday! It will be awesome! And possibly ice cream on Wednesday. Well at the end of the Team-up we went to our apartment because he needed to use the facilities, and then he said "okay we are going to do interviews, Elder Johnson Sit down Elder Draper go into the Bedroom." And I was like "okay." So he grilled Johnson, and then he grilled me about how we thought the night went. So it was pretty amusing.
Friday we did weekly planning, which was good and we did some stuff, but we had to be in by 6:00 unless we had a specific appointment. Halloween is scary as a missionary, because we can feel the spirit but you can sense a form of evil in the air that is not normal. We finished our appointment then drove like the wind to the other Elders apartment to stay, since Saturday was Elder Johnson's birthday!
Saturday Elder Johnson turned twenty, we opened presents and then went to breakfast. Then we came back, played some games, went to work and then came back for cake and ice cream, during dinner, so it was fun. We had some great lessons, and on Saturday we went to a devotional at the Church. And it was so cool, it was the Mafia to Mormon guy, it was neat to hear his story and how he changed.
Sunday we went to church then to the house of the Urqidez family for dinner and we had some ceviche-which is a seafood dish of raw fish cured in citrus juice and spices (Travis should know what it is, I would like some when I come home from my mission if you are down Travis).
Monday we went to the California Street Stake Center for volleyball, then we went to the Zoo. And it was cool, I will need to send pictures but my camera is basically dead, so next week. Well the Big Highlight of crazy stupid is the ZOO. At the Zoo there is a Gorilla called the Silverback Gorilla well guess what its silver is kind of like, a white shirt. And guess what is extremely offensive? Putting your back to them. Well the zoo personal actually encourage missionaries to get the Gorilla angry, to keep him more in his natural state. So while we are there we put our backs to the glass and this little gorilla comes up and knocks on the glass and runs away, and when we don't move the Big one Charges and pounds on the Glass. Well we did that, in total, probably for about an hour. We would go and come back an hour later. We then went in as a big group of 10 elders and he was so mad he didn't even let the little monkey warn us he just charged. Elder Roberts, an English elder, charged the gorilla and basically riled the gorilla up. It was cool, only Mormon Elders can really do that. So it is super stupid but they actually encourage it, so I didn't do anything bad.I am sorry I do not have a video, because my camera is close to death, but if I go with my next companion I will have a sweet video of a Gorilla trying to beat me through the Glass. So that is my week

Trying not to be obvious

A Week of Weeks and crazy weird conversations

Dear Family and Friends
We had a good week, a fantastic week. Numbers were not where they could of been, but we were following God's guidance and he really doesn't care about numbers like I do. And that is good because numbers are good, getting good numbers and having a couple good lessons is better, but following God 100% is Best. That is what I feel we did as best we could with what we had to do. We are working with Kevin and Manny, two young men, on going on missions. Manny has the papers and Kevin doesn't, but we are going to change that. They are growing so much in their faith. Manny has been helping us in our lessons with Moses, and now Moses is going to come to Church because of Manny. The power of a pure Spirit and a member present lesson, that was Sunday the 26th and ya it rocked. We found one of our Maria's, we taught her the Plan of Salvation and she had some misconceptions and it was awesome, because in the car before lesson we decided to have her read Alma 40 and it is about the resurrection, and guess what her misconception and her problem was? It was the Resurrection! It was a cool little miracle, if this week could have a title it really should be little miracles. I am so blessed to be in Omaha, to work with the people I do. If I hadn't come here I don't think the match would be good as it could have been. Johnson and I are working together in unity and we are connecting with the people. We connect in different ways, but between the two of us and our personalities we cover everyone.
We met with our crazy anti-Mormon investigator Chito again this week, and it was crazy we got him to simply text us his questions. And we have nine questions to answer, some are simple, some are doctrinal points that other churches have that disagree with us. So we are excited to work with him, since his sister is a member, but we are going to take it slow, play our basketball, then have a mini lesson. Another miracle is his nephew, the recent convert's son, believes us. He is just not ready to act since he is in his teens, but I think we can maybe baptize him in the next transfer. I loved what he said, "Chito is crazy man he believes everything he finds on the internet." Oh how sad and true, but we love Chito. He is a cool guy and he really honestly wants to find the truth, he is just scared to be led away by deceiving men.
Probably one of my favorite people is Hermana Urquidez, she is such a sweet and humble lady and wants to do everything right. She has given up so many bad habits for herself, her husband, her children, her membership in the Church, and Christ. She has done a complete 180 degree turn. She is back in her house, after the gang forced them out. I have such great love for her and her husband, they are so humble and willing to serve us when they need the help. I can see in many ways where God has prepared me to help them. I love these people and we have had some great conversations with them, we are going to for sure teach their neighbors. Hopefully we will be able to baptize them in the next transfer as well, so this next transfer might explode with baptisms and we are so ready. The only sowing part is over, and it is time to start gathering in. Father, or Brother, Bruun is the guy who, I believe, is the Stake Young Men's President and he came up to Johnson and said, "Have you ever been kicked in the but by an old man?" Johnson replied, "No Sir," and to which Father Bruun said, "Do you think you will be today son?" and Johnson smartly replied, "Yes Sir." Well he basically said to us, "I am coming out with you this week, whether you want me to or not and I dare you to say no." He is so funny and he said, "Do you run in the mornings? I don't think you do, Tuesday morning get up at 6:15, run three miles and call me to tell me you did it, and we know what happens if you lie." So Tuesday morning Johnson and I are running three miles minimum. And it is so funny, and we are excited to go work with him and with the youth.
Johnson had the cool opportunity to see some of his recent converts at the Trail Center on Saturday, and it was so sweet for him. I love my trainer, man he really is the best. We are different ends of the spectrum, coming from different directions, but we are one in faith, heart, purpose and it is cool to get back on the same team and see success. So that is my week, it may not be as organized as week pasts, but it was a much better week with amazing miracles of things that happened.
Create miracles in your lives my friends, study the Book of Mormon Daily, pray about it and find some principle, or principles, to apply everyday The best manual for life is the Book of Mormon, you just need to look for answers. How to pray for answers better, how to trust in God more, how to repent, how to raise children it is all there. I love you all and I miss you, but I don't. So TWENTY more months it is.

BIG MONSTER LETTER OF a HAPPY ELDER DRAPER

Dear Family and Friends
To be completely honest this past week wasn't much better than last, due to lack of success. But it was better because of my attitude and not having to deal with the other Elders as much, though we still had to a fair amount. I appreciate everyone's love and concern for me, and I received my package and it was awesome. I am now ready for winter and it is going to be fun. I am preparing for a sweet week! We have our meal calendar full, which makes Johnson happy. One it saves us money; two, because he was only given forty dollars this month and he only had twenty to start so now he is down to 14 :( but we will make it until the end of the month. I would have more but I bought a better Spanish to English dictionary and it has grammar rules in it to so that makes it so super cool.
To be honest most of my week was people not being home and then rescheduling and then it falling through, because they did something or the other Elders did something. We are still having to play nice with them. Well, I actually already tried having the hard conversation with Elder Johnson. And it came down to him, in his mind, district unity or fighting over the, "little things." We are getting along, but we definitely have a bit of tension at times over that. Because to him if he doesn't have fun he isn't living the right way, and I said if we aren't working for success while we are in proselyting time we aren't living the way the Lord wants us to live and act. If you want to know some of where I am coming from there is a great YouTube mix of Holland and Eyring giving talks to the new mission presidents, it is huge about the atonement how it is for missionaries and investigators.* I bet Travis can find it. We still haven't come to much of a consensus. I kind of have let Elder Johnson win for now, because he likes to make me look like a hypocrite when we fight. He Said, "If you are so committed to building Zion, and you yourself said that you believe God has established Missions to teach us about Zion and unity, then why are you so eager to go against what you said." Well I think I can come up with a good response to that but I am going to hold my peace. I am sorry for the vent but I need it. I have been working as hard as I can to make my ward and my area progress. I have put the nose to the grindstone and I don't feel it is appreciated, it is respected but never appreciated.
However I would like to move on and share some funny stories from this week, in no particular order. First, last night we came out to our car from a lesson with a part member family ,which was cool we watched the restoration video and invited them to pray to come closer to God and it rocked!, and there on our windshield was a flier for a fireside from Mafia to Mormon. Then there was some sticky notes and a pass along card, and in summary it was Trail Center Sisters telling us to get out of their area. They were telling us to not area poach, well to put things in perspective of why this is funny: 1. My area is bigger than their area 2. my area is bigger than the zone they live in. So the rule 'don't leave your zone' does not apply to us and we can go wherever we want, so Ha ha ha ha. It was funny, Johnson and I had a riot.
Next we had a lesson with a brother and the son of a RC (recent convert) and it was funny because they really don't know what they believe. We taught them about the Plan of Salvation, then after he started going into government conspiracies and how there were once people who were 36 feet tall and were supposedly half man half angel and they had super powers and were the original pharaohs of Egypt. Ya it was funny because Johnson and I didn't know what to do with them then. So we are going to fix that little piece of blasphemy next lesson.
And finally, and sadly, I had a conversation with a LA who is very apostate. Basically I destroyed his position and I can't convince him of why he was wrong, but I would always try to focus on testifying but he wanted to make an argument by asking me clever questions which I always answered fully correctly and flawlessly. So it was funny because he can argue against everyone but me. So he asks trick questions and uses different interpretations of things that I had to account for, but I won. Go Team Christ.
So my dear family and friends that is the big stuff, so here is the boring summary. Today we played volleyball, and I blocked two balls that were coming over the net as the person tried spiking it. Sunday, went to church, oh, I spoke on temples and their importance. And I have a runny snotty nose, which just won't stop!
Saturday, basketball with the Ward and trying to find people who are apperating somewhere, curse you Harry Potter! (by the way why is being a harry gardner bad? ;) ) Well that is some stuff. I will need to go now. I love you all, I am doing much better. We are all getting along and I am sharing my candy, when they play nice. Thanks for all your love and support.
Love

I'm signing out until next week!

The Big Letter for this week

Dear family and friends
I have had an annoying and eventful, and yet uneventful week. Basically I have been along the whole roller-coaster. Monday we did our stuff and visited with people and invited the LA, who is now not a LA, (his name is Kevin and he is the one I help with math) to pray about and prepare to go on a mission. And it was cool.
Tuesday we had the worst day, in my mind, EVER! We literally got nothing done. We had to take our car to the dealership for a recall and then it was supposed to only be a couple hour thing, well it was long but not that long. And Elder Paonessa is a narcissist, because the world revolves around him and despite the fact that I said, when they called us to tell us our car was done, "we need to go get our car, they close at six." He was like, "no not now." Well later he was like, "so should we go get your car?" Note it is 8:00 at night, and we were like, "no it closed at six" and he was like, "oh I thought they were open, I guess I figure if I am out working everyone else is too." So ya that threw us off. We got nothing done that entire day, NOTHING.
Wednesday it was better, we stayed over with them so we could go to Zone Training and it was good. We went to lunch after to a place called HU HOT and it was good. The funny thing is I was the only one who carried my BoM in with me, and the lady when paying forgot to run my card even though it was in its little folder thingy and well she said "you know what don't worry about it" So I got free lunch and I gave her a BoM, so two birds one stone. We had a good lesson with Kevin again and he is definitely going to go on a mission, he is going to pray about it and we think he has been studying so it was awesome! Then Luis and Juan, less active and they are twins, we finally had the hard lesson about going to church and changing your lives around, and it was good.
Thursday we had Exchanges so it was me and Elder Paonessa and it wasn't bad. He slept in until about 10:30, he woke up the same time as me but he went back to bed once the alarms were off. We got two pretty good lessons in with our investigators. But things never work out for some reason.
Friday sucked but it wasn't really our fault, but it kind of was. It really was just Crazy. We got a mid transfer greenie named Elder Espinoza, he is cool and he should have arrived when I did but he got sick in the CCM and so he went home for a bit. He is cool, and after Johnson he is the Elder I would like to serve with. The reason it sucked is because we tried arranging our day so we could pick him up at the appointed time, but then it got thrown under the bus because time changed. But it wasn't to bad we were going to go to Meet the Mormons with Luis and our investigator Roberto, but it didn't work out. Since we had already gotten tickets for the three of us we went to the movie anyways. It was so cool, I suggest going to see it if possible.
Saturday we were going to finish weekly planning after Espinoza left and as we were leaving to go work the other Elders showed up at our place and were like, "want to go get lunch?" I was like "no we already ate and I told you earlier NO" but guess what everyone is a softie and we went. And it was a huge time killer and it killed our miles a little bit, but it worked out and we handed over Espinoza later than planned so it also killed our timing. Johnson and I are at odds with each other because he is trying to keep "district unity," which is important, but I don't want to lie down and just do what the other Elders want to do because they don't freaking want to work. And then it kills us, because I don't want to go against Johnson and since Johnson doesn't want to go against them we do things there way, and Waste God's time. Really it simply, in my opinion, sucks and Johnson is right, we need to maybe consider the other Elders as LA and help them but the question then is how. I figure making their only real option work is best, Johnson wants to take the social friend approach. You could say I don't have charity for them, that is at least what he said to me but I do have charity for them. I just don't have infinite patience for them and I might have to "drop them." Well I kind of did actually because, skipping Sunday for a moment, today we had a little chat of why we seemed pissed at Pao. And it came down to, I am pissed that we waste time and don't do the needed things and you just want to have "fun" first then maybe work. So we won't be going to lunch with them anymore, and that pissed Johnson off at me, but there is only so much we can do. And really he wants to chill and still work hard, which is why we have P-day. So ya, I am frustrated with everyone because I can't do what I know to be right and please everyone. So I have decided if I can't please everyone I will please GOD.
Sunday, stayed over at the other Elders' place and then went to church. We had a good ward council and a good fast and testimony meeting. But Pao was pissed that we mentioned the Ward Soccer activity during ward council, because he considers it his activity and he doesn't like not being the boss. And so that is that, he is pissed at us for that but whatever. I don't have to deal with him ever again after this transfer unless we go whitewash an area. So I am safe

Conference, Investigators and going the wrong Way

Dear Friends and Family
I have had an interesting week, the definite highlight of coolness and adventures was Conference. I will start at the beginning and then go to the present as usual, because I am a creature of habit so deal with it because you love me and I love you.
We had district meeting early on Tuesday so we could go into interview with President Weston on time, and they were good, we had a good discussion. I am only speaking  Spanish, or at least I am trying. It is hard when you have to work with English speakers and stuff so ya, my goal kind of died but I am keeping it alive. We were told by the senior couple in our district to threaten a kid who is apostate, who used to be in their Sunday School classes. So we gave him a note and it was interesting, he really doesn't care what happens in the end with his rebelliousness. An Alma the Younger wouldn't work, sadly. ;(
Wednesday, the Big day, we had four lessons which is good. We taught the restoration twice to new investigators, so we got two news, which rocked. The Really cool guy, who we usually teach on Sundays, we almost lost him because he doesn't feel that we can or needs to come back to church and we had the doubts lesson and it was awesome. We are praying for him.
Thursday we had exchanges and nothing worked out at all, like nothing.Iit was crazy, oh and I forgot to mention our car went into the shop the week before so we got it back on Thursday and it is nice, they even cleaned it for us which rocked so nice because now it smells good! like really Good. We then got back together earlier than planned and we were able to go to our appointments like we liked and we had a cool lesson on reading the scriptures and fasting and praying for help and answers to questions, and it was cool.
Friday we had weekly planning and we gave out a BoM without leaving our apartment, because the apartment people finally sent someone to fix our carpet, and it was cool so we are hopefully going to track the guy down and start teaching him or refer him  to the north Elders. No one came to soccer, so it was sad, and the one lesson that worked out the guy just wanted to fight  with us. Oddly enough that is how we had predicted it would go in the role-play we did, so that was funny.
Saturday we had stayed over with the other Elders to help save their miles, because we have lots. Well we had to go get Johnson's shoes because he forgot them and that was funny. Well we had Elder Maradiaga plug in the address of the closest stake center which was close by actually it was in Pappillion well he put the city as OMAHA, instead of being in North Pappillion we were in NORTH OMAHA. And we were twenty minutes from the nearest stake center before we turned around, we had said "this isn't right," but then we would all silence them with "no, we are fine." We all took our turns but ya. We were forty minutes late, when we maybe would have been ten minutes late, so we basically missed the first half of the first session so I would like a copy in English of the Conference Ensign. But it was funny, we are always late when we are with them, and it is so annoying but what can you do.
Sunday was better, we did it by ourselves since the other Elders begged their way into member homes and Johnson and I just go with it and are chill. Some of the members like us better, and some like them better. Well we have a ton of Extra miles and we could go to Sioux City and Everyone but me wanted to go, so I consented if we could get permission and Elder Paounessa said, "oh I give us permission to go," Well funny thing is, he doesn't have the authority and we asked the Zone Leaders because I made Johnson do which he was grateful for, and they said "NO you can't go to Sioux City." So I was relieved to not be in Sioux City today. Well Pao was mad, as expected, but ya he is not a God Fearing man but my week was good.We played volleyball and basketball in Council Bluffs and it was fun and that sums up my week. I will tell you more in my box-package-letter thing I am sending to you because I still need to send the Ipod home, shhh don't tell.
I Love you all

Investigator Hitting on Me

Dear Family and Friends
Don't worry too much about the title. I had a up and down week with both good and bad, funny and sad. So the highlight was probably the title, so you will find that out soon enough.
Last Monday P-day and the start of the new transfer, and so a nice new planner. We visited with a LA and he is cool and we helped him with his Girl problem, because his friend who says he is helping him is more like throwing him under the bus, but at least his friend is trying to do something.
Tuesday I gave a training at district meeting on obedience to the order of heaven, and basically it was designed, as were the orders of Elder Paonessa, the DL, to say stay in your area. Well I gave a good training and made it more towards if we are disobedient we can't receive revelation and I basically laid down the law and stuff, and it was kind of funny because Pao had the map and he was like boundaries activity and then the sisters said, well I'm going home and I'm going to Grand Island Omaha is all yours for two transfers and here is our area book, don't take anything out of there, and we were like okay ya sure. Went to dinner at the Pachecos and somehow my tie bar fell off as I was getting out of the car and I stepped on it and when I pulled it out of my shoe I bent it and so it is sad because I tried fixing it but I broke one of the spires. (It was the Brigham City one :( ) so that night kind of sucked and we looked through the sisters area book when I was on exchanges with Elder Maradiaga. And well, to put it simply half of the sisters' people were in our areas! and they even had it color coded and separated into Elders areas and regular their area! I was annoyed that sisters would be as arrogant to label it that way and to go over miles by close to five hundred miles each three weeks when they already had 900 but the other Elders were livid truly livid, but it was kind of funny to see their reactions. :)
Wednesday I worked Elder Maradiagas area and it was entertaining. Johnson and I were happy to be able to go back to being with each other after that.
Thursday, the day of funniness. We had a lesson with our first investigator in her dress shop and it was good and then another investigator came in at the end, then we taught her the same thing then their friend who also works their came in, and we then taught her well this third lady was funny because she said to the other ladies "I love his hair don't you?! He is so Chulo"- thought translation as good looking or really nice kind of like guapo- well then I started teaching her and she was like "keep talking chulo." Then she said "He sounds so chulo when he talks his accent is so Chulo", later she was like "Look at his eyes they are so beautiful he is a definite Chulo." Then some guy who was there, probably a friend she wants to be his novia (girlfriend) and she was like "I could be his mom, I just think he is very Chulo especially when he talks," and he said "ya you're right, they probably just knock doors to find novias" (she had also called Johnson Chulo) and she said "God rebuke the Devil" and Johnson and I just looked at each other and chuckled but what really makes this funny is she is talking super fast and I am understanding everything but I have no clue what chulo means so I am lost and Johnson is just laughing, I am lost. Then after we left Johnson decided he would tell me, we are still laughing about it even today we just chuckle, but that lady is a new investigator so that will help out we hope. And Travis she used to be a Bruja so she told us a bit about her experiences and ya it was interesting.  One of our families, in the projects, has to leave because a boyfriend was beating his pregnant girlfriend and they called the police and they [the police] came and saved her. And then the gang found out it was them [the family] so they drove them out and we happened to decide to go back, and it was the first day they had been back, and we helped them move out.
Friday I got kind of sick and we did service and weekly planning, so it was a good day for that to happen verses another day.
Saturday we got another new investigators and it will be really cool, he is the friend of a LA and we are going to get them to quit smoking so it will be nice to see how that goes.
Sunday was good, we had to speak in sacrament meeting. I actually gave a five minute talk like we were supposed to, everyone else was short so that was good. We are going to be getting some great member support and I can't wait to see how that goes.
I love you all Love
Elder Draper

New Transfer

Dear Family and friends,
I am happy to inform you that I am doing very well. I had a great week, numbers don't mean anything in reality but we were trying and they look good. So I am proud of them because I am doing much better than I was before. Monday was frustrating, as you probably can recall through my email, however, it was really sweet in the end.We did a family home evening with a family the dad is considered less active because his job keeps him out of town a lot (he works for the railroads). Well it was sweet we shared 2 Nephi 28:26-31 and Helaman 5:12 and it was really cool. We gave them the perspective and they knew and as a family figured out what they wanted and could do better, it was sweet. We got a sweet lesson with an English/Spanish investigator and we taught him the Plan of Salvation and he ate it right up out of our hands. He really understands the gospel. I love him to death because he is not much older than me, but he hasn't had the gospel and he can see how it can make it happy.
Tuesday we had district meeting and it was good and I don't remember where Hermana Miller got the quote but it says "puny preparation precedes puny revelation." So I need to prepare more for my investigators. We taught one of our investigators the law of chastity because we have to even though I am not worried with him having a problem with that anytime soon however he is 14. Let's suffice to say he set a world record for shortest successful lesson ever! It was funny being the missionary and teaching that one. We went to the leaving missionaries testimonies at the Trail Center and it was nice and then we went home.
Wednesday, a pretty sweet day, we got a LA who doesn't like to do anything to commit to reading the BoM and her son ,who we mainly work with, is doing good at coming to church and everything and he is cool I love him, and I will not let him slip up if I can at all help it. We found out as we were leaving, since we had to go early to make dinner, that the sister missionaries were coming over later to visit them! He is in the middle of our area! and their area is bigger than my area and the other elders area including Council Bluffs combined! Yet they come in and "take our stuff", I really don't mind too much and I am kind of like, "whatever it isn't a big deal" but the other elders make it seem like they are evil and will never change, but whatever. Either way the Elders and sisters are both at fault, when it goes down in district meeting tomorrow.
Thursday we had a full DAY! We taught a total of five lessons which is good considering we had to go out to the church to pick up the greenie and drive around with him and take him to a lesson and then back again. However it was cool having three of us in the lesson I really liked it, we committed her to be baptized and this week we find out the results of our commitment! We talked to the less active up above and helped him with his math, a total Travis, and it was sweet I have discovered three things
 1. the gift of mathematics
 2. the spirit literally bringing all things to my remembrance
 3. you can't have the spirit to teach if you are not in your own area
So we had some sweet lessons and I think our LA is getting the difference the spirit makes in his life.
Friday weekly planning and deep cleaning. I didn't get any lessons that day, it was just off for us but we had a good time planning for the next week.
Saturday we got four lessons and got two new investigators and had stake conference, it was sweet I love meetings! Look up the 14th Article of Faith* but let me correct it by saying I love meetings when they do not interfere with my proselyting time.
Sunday, a great continuation of the last night"s  stake conference they stole a man from our mission presidency for the stake presidency so it was sad but cool. So I got to hear more from President Weston and Sister Weston. We had a good meeting with a LA who we are going to get to quit smoking and come to church. The guy from Monday who we had a sweet lesson with  is progressing and next Sunday we are going to find out if he decided to be baptized or not, so we are praying for our investigators to do the right thing and we got another one to commit to church.
The Work moves forward and I am doing much better. I am loving my time here and the people's food.
Love
Elder L.J. Draper
