The second big letter

Dear family, friends, cats, dogs and other interested parties
It has been a very interesting week in El CCM I don't quite know where to start. I guess I should start with the end of last weeks p-day so we went to dinner and a devotional and after the devotional we have a district review and Hermana Hancock bore her testimony and expressed some of her thoughts of how she was struggling, I was impressed by the spirit to hug her, but I refrained, I was obedient. So I wrote her a note of encouragement that night. I also expressed thoughts that touched her hear where she felt impressed to hug me as well but she refrained. Double obedience wammy! So after getting my note she wrote me a thank you note and that is how I learned she felt the same way it was pretty awesome I daresay we are probably as close to being friends that an elder and sister can be. Anyways so that was Wednesday she got the note. I got over my sickness from Tuesday night to Wednesday I thank God for His mercy and love and the great miracle the human body is, and some elders just need to do the brat diet. Well I don't remember much else about Wednesday it is difficult to remember things since every is quite literally the same. Think the Groundhog Day was bad, try two weeks in CCM . Oh Angel my investigator is my new teacher in the afternoons and his real name is Mosiah Martinez ha ha ha what a cool name. and he is a fantastic teacher. I played soccer and made two goals take that world cup. Next up is the Fourth of July. we don't have a picture because it isn't p-day but we as the elders wore ties that were red and blue, and they were kind enough to give us a mini celebration. because half of the CCM is American I swear. We sang the national anthem at lunch and we had apple pie and bbq sandwiches. of and straight up American vanilla ice cream I swear I was in heaven, minus I wasn't with God. :) Anyways, Hermano Silva my regular teacher is now an investigator and he has the greatest tye dye get up ever! Man, he is classy, I am almost jealous of his style. My district is one big family, and Hermana Hancock and I are pretty much brother and sister we are giving each other so much crap about our special someones though we are being nice. Her BF is a marine well I'm skipping to Saturday. Well it was good until I broke down from stress, I am okay now, I don't know what it was but I cracked it took me a little while to calm down but I am okay then we had lunch, I am now an emotional eater. latter that day we had stress management, can you believe the irony? but it gets better basically everyone's stress relief tactics are forbidden so ya that is that. No running by yourself, no music playing instruments, and whatever else people do, it is against the rules. ha ha ha suck it up missionaries basically is how the video felt. Hemrano Martinez told us a story it is long but I will sum it up: as missionaries we have to be obedient, but as we are obedient we are given more trust and freedom to act and recieve revelation, even if it means going to a skate park and showing off tricks to the young kids to earn their trust so that they could be taught the gospel. boom awesomeness, I am going to be obedient, and I am glad I have been so ya so Saturday is pretty much the same as the others and I can't quite remember the details, oh wait it rained like every other day. We began our fast at lunch and ended it at lunch on Sunday which means we didn't have to write talks. Fast Sundays are my favorite because you also get extra study time in the morning. Priesthood was also pretty cool we talked about being examples.
there are two types of happy people
1 children
2 missionaries, we need to put on our smile every morning along with our tie. So that was a great lesson.
District class was Sunday School. and it was about companionship unity. so ya. Sacrament meeting was great with lots of testimonies in Spanish, and it is way to hot in a suit coat though the old men in the presidency seem not to notice, they got mad at us during our movie at night for taking our suit coats off. I think the Hermanas need to wear the suit coats for the Elders. it would simplify the coldness, and the hotness issue. We watched Joseph Smith the Prophet of the Restoration and it was really good, we also watched a devotional from Elder Holland on being a Preach My Gospel missionary, I think I need to work harder. after When we should have been doing district review and discussion, we instead gave to of the Hermanas blessings, Hermana Brady, and Hermana Garner. It was really cool, I got to give Hermana Garner a blessing. then we gave one to Elder Fletcher since he kind of got viral bronchitis so ya. Then Monday the Hermanas were feeling better, Elder Fletcher not so great but noticeably better. I can't remember if I told you about the Latino Hermanas we helped to find Loor al Propheta or Praise to the Man, but one of them had me and Elder Drennan, though she said Elder Draper, write down our contact information, emails and stuff so ya it was entertaining. that was pretty much it on the excitement for Monday. Tuedsday or today we played ultimate pong, which is ping pong across the volley ball net, we then played basket ball and that is it. for now I love you all this gospel is true, the MTC is hard but I wouldn't want to be anyplace else (mom please fix my grammar because it is hard to type fast on this keyboard thanks I love you!)

Elder Logan Joseph Draper

The first real letter, ie the BIG letter

Dear family, and friends
I am in CCM in Mexico City it is crazy and weird and definitely different. Here it is from the beginning:
Tuesday night/Wednesday: so I got through security at the airport and I met the other missionaries. there is an Elder Jensen who is also going to Nebraska. I was the first missionary to board the plane, I got my suit case in the overhead compartment then sat down in my seat, I was sitting next to this girl named Wittany Shelton, and I was soon joined by another Elder. I started talking about packing tips with them then I turned the 3 and a half hour flight into a discussion about the gospel and it was so awesome because she was very receptive, and I gave her a mormon.org pass along card thing and my email, and she promised to look into the church a little bit so it was awesome. we landed in Atlanta then we grouped up to go to our departure gate for Mexico. some of us hadn't eaten and we decided some food was a good idea, I got a smoothie. then we came back to our stuff and we sat around for another long while, then we decided to get to know each other. more people arrived from other flights and we soon boarded the plane. I got on and I had a window seat. it was sweet. I took some pictures of the flight. it was great fun. I landed in Mexico City and I was freaking out about trying to get through customs, but it worked out despite getting the red light which meant my bags got searched. The bus ride from the airport to El CCM was sketch, but our driver was good, I got my books and my bags and my name tags, boom it was official. I unpacked then had to wait for my comp to show up. who is Elder Drennan. and then we went to bed, and it hit me. So send me more pictures to Nebraska everyone, like printed physical pictures, I need them!
Thursday: I woke up a little bit late, but it wasn't bad, we have four guys in my room including me and my comp. breakfast was good and I ran into Elder Alder, he is doing well, and I told him to stop by my house to get his PMG. we had MTC orientation with our teachers, and then we went and got our money cards, and we got hangers for Elder Drennan and Elder Winn since Elder Drennan didn't pack any and Elder Winn lost one of his bags. We had lunch then some meetings, and in the one on dress and grooming they said no pins on the lapels since it would draw away from our message, ha ha ha it is the temple! we taught an investigator person, as a group and it was good. we meet our branch presidency, and I got Elder Alder his PMG
Friday: woke up on time, at breakfast and went to class, Elder Drennan and I prepared a lesson to teach our first investigator. we taught Angel first because none of the other groups were ready, I ended up teaching the entire lesson since Elder Drennan couldn't say anything in Spanish. we did more studying after the lesson, and prepared our next lesson. Oh and I ripped the seams out in two pairs of pants that day, the first pair, I ripped out my crotch, the second I ripped out my legs but I fixed them.
Saturday: I woke up at 6 and showered first. We got to class on time for in morning studying. we talked about the BoM and how we can receive revelation from it. we had our second lesson with Angel and it was much better, and I understood even more of what he was saying, the gift of tongues can be real! basically more studying and eating and studying, and it rains every single night about the  same time.
Sunday: not necessarily very exciting we study while the Hermanas are in Relief Society, and they study while we are in Priesthood. We also had a district meeting, and sacrament meeting, I said the prayer on the bread in Spanish. We had our meeting or interviews with the branch presidency, I was with Pres. Tenorio and he promised to email Travis for me. I got out of the meeting then our district for some bonding time wanted to talk about relationships such as our current Boyfriends and Girlfriends so I pulled out my pictures of Paige and I and they oohed and awed. We then watched a devotional from Elder Bednar, and we then had a movie, and when we were done with that we were instructed to go to our district room and talk about what we learned. which was a total joke because the street had flooded, but we had to do it anyways so to put it mildly I got my shoes wet.
Monday we taught Angel again, and we did more studying, and I have gotten sick. I have put myself on the bratty diet, and I am taking pepto bismo and tylenol and Ibuprofen.
Tuesday: today has mainly been lazy we have done our laundry, I am not ironing my shirts since the water here burns, and has stained part of one of my collars. sorry it has gotten shorter for each day, but the days are less and less exciting, oh one story, so there was this baby bird sleeping on the grass near the laundry room, while we waited for our clothes to be done drying, we shined our shoes at a nearby bench, and when time was up we went back and the baby bird was dead, and it was only ten feet from us. I am working on seeing Travis, I have been hounding people since the first minute I got here. my Spanish is getting better, though there is not enough time to do everything this is the big letter

June 25, 2014

Dear Mom and every one else
I am doing very well my flights were both very good. I did not sleep on the flight down very much because I was talking to a girl about the church and it was really neat. I am not sure how much time I have here. My P-day is on Tuesdays. Please get as much information from Travis about meeting him at the temple so that I can arrange to meet him there. I am a little over whelmed an a little nervous because there is so much to do and I dont feel like there is a lot of guidance. I am very excited to be here I have so much I want to say, but the big thing is that God watches out for us he comforts us, and I have given a pass along type card, a mormon.org card to the girl on my red eye flight. I met sister clawson, and she seems to be doing really good. I think I will need to go soon but I just want to say I love you, I will stay on for three more minutes

Logan's farewell

Sacrament meeting talk

Logan's farewell

GMB&S  my name is Logan Draper
It is my pleasure to speak to you today before I depart on my mission. For those of you who do not know I have been called to the Nebraska Omaha Mission, Spanish speaking

I.        I would like to begin by sharing a story with you (Ammon, Alma 17:18 — Alma 19)
II.     I would like to focus my remarks today around a talk given in the October 2012 General Conference by Sister Ann Dibb titled, "I know it. I live it. I love it."
A.     We often are intimidated by the story of Ammon.
B.      I would like to show you how I have used the example of Ammon, and people in my own life to better prepare for my mission, and life.
III.  I'm a Mormon
A.     As Sister Dibb said "The first part of the statement is a self-assured, unapologetic declaration: “I’m a Mormon.”  I hope we will never be afraid or reluctant to acknowledge, “I’m a Mormon.” We should be confident, as was the Apostle Paul when he proclaimed, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.” "
B.      Ammon,  is a disciple of Christ. He boldly declares this, in Alma 18:34-35          "Ammon said unto him: I am a man; and man in the beginning was created after the image of God, and I am called by his Holy Spirit to teach these things unto this people, that they may be brought to a knowledge of that which is just and true;"35 And a portion of that Spirit dwelleth in me, which giveth me knowledge, and also power according to my faith and desires which are in God."
C.      In my own life an example, which is much more applicable and real to me, is my older brother Travis. Travis and I are your typical set of brothers, we have fought, laughed, and run together(because that is what we call fun), but more importantly he's been a great example to me. Travis didn't do anything grand, he has done two simple things.
1.       Followed all of the guidelines in the For the Strength of Youth.
2.       He is a Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has followed the example of Ammon and Sister Dibb by declaring I'm a Mormon to the people of Mexico.

IV.  I know it
A.     As Sister Dibb stated, "All truth and knowledge is important, but amidst the constant distractions of our daily lives, we must especially pay attention to increasing our gospel knowledge so we can understand how to apply gospel principles to our lives. As our gospel knowledge increases, we will begin to feel confident in our testimonies and be able to state, “I know it.” "
B.      Ammon is a fantastic example from the scriptures of someone who knows it. Ammon in Alma 18:36-40 tells King Lamoni of all the scriptures from the creation to the present time. He then expounded to King Lamoni the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
C.      An example to me of people who, "Know it," would be my seminary teachers, my Sunday school teachers and the many great returned missionaries I know. These individuals dedicate, and have dedicated, their time to knowing and understanding the Gospel. They know the Scripture Mastery verses, they know the stories in the scriptures, and they give examples from their own lives about how they have seen the Gospel in action. Like Ammon they share them. More importantly in my life they have taught me (give example(s)).
V.     I live it (in teaching me the way to know it I have learned to live it, as the next part of Sister Dibb's talk states)
A.     "Next is the statement, “I live it.” The scriptures teach that we must be “doers of the word, and not hearers only.”We live the gospel and become “doers of the word” by exercising faith, being obedient, lovingly serving others, and following our Savior’s example. We act with integrity and do what we know is right “at all times and in all things, and in all places”6 no matter who may or may not be watching."
B.      The story of Ammon relates a great example of living the Gospel. When the flocks were scattered he did not weep, he set to work doing as he was commanded by the King. When the flocks were again threatened he rose up and defended them. And when the flocks were returned to the King's fields, his fellow servants went to tell King Lamoni what had happened. Meanwhile Ammon was at work preparing the King's chariot for travel as he and his fellow servants had been commanded to do once the flocks were watered.
C.      Two people who have been profound influences on me have been my Mom and Dad. I have watched them and they are, "doers of the word and not hearers only." They also have been examples to me in how to bring the gospel into my life everyday. I have vivid memories as a child going to find my mom in the mornings, and she would be kneeling by her bed praying. My Dad would gather the family each night for scripture study. My dad has also shown me how to work by his example (expound). I hope I can follow the example of my parents.
VI.  I love it (my parents have been wonderful examples of loving the gospel by (example)
A.     Sister Dibb concluded with "“I love it.” Gaining a knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ and diligently living gospel principles in our everyday lives leads many members of the Church to exclaim enthusiastically, “I love the gospel!”"
B.      Ammon is a great example of someone who loves the gospel. He put his own life in peril to bring the gospel to the Lamanites, a people who were so often considered enemies of his own people, the Nephites. At the end of his mission Ammon and his Brethren gathered together again.  Ammon shows his love  in  Alma 26:13-16 when he says   "Behold, how many thousands of our brethren has he loosed from the pains of hell; and they are brought to sing redeeming love, and this because of the power of his word which is in us, therefore have we not great reason to rejoice? Yea, we have reason to praise him forever, for he is the Most High God, and has loosed our brethren from the chains of hell. Yea, they were encircled about with everlasting darkness and destruction; but behold, he has brought them into his everlasting light, yea, into everlasting salvation; and they are encircled about with the matchless bounty of his love; yea, and we have been instruments in his hands of doing this great and marvelous work. Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel."
C.      My testimony and love of the gospel.
